Ridley Scott, director of ‘Alien’ and ‘Blade Runner,’ returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Prometheus takes a crew of scientists and business representatives across the galaxy to a new world in search of the meaning of life and mankind’s origins.

Prometheus is an “unofficial” prequel to Ridley Scott’s original ‘Alien’ from 1979, the film that kicked off the franchise originally. Ridley Scott returns to recaptivate this timeless classic in an all new approach and an all new story. Keeping elements of the original film in mind, Prometheus creates new questions and ultimately expands the mystery behind the space engineers (named Space Jockeys) and the acid-bleeding parasites (The Alien) they brought with them to planet LV-426

Important News:

On December 22nd, 2011 – Fox officially released the Prometheus teaser trailer in HD on iTunes Apple Trailers. Since then we managed to upload 54 screen caps of the trailer to our Prometheus gallery and upload the video to our AvPSpectrum YouTube channel. Alternatively, you can also download the entire trailer for free here on AvPSpectrum!

On December 19th, 2011 – Fox officially released two sneak peak teaser trailers for Prometheus on the Apple Trailers website. Both featured new, HD footage of the film and some behind the scenes look at what we can expect in the final product. Both videos were roughly 30 seconds in length, but enough was shown to really grasp the attention of fans and increase excitement levels all over the web. On November 26th, 2011 – A bootlegged trailer for Prometheus was released on the internet by AvPGalaxy.net – which was later taken down by Fox. The video itself was 1:07 in length and showcased many scenes from the film – including shots of the crew, explosions, vehicles, the Space jockey, the crashed Alien derelict spacecraft and many more. The video is currently available for download for AvPSpectrum Subscribers in our forums.

On November 23rd, 2011 – Entertainment Weekly released their next magazine issue early and featured four more official Prometheus movie stills. In these stills we got to see the “Giant Head” statue which was mentioned in previous interviews and a number of shots of the crew investigating an Alien cavern. We also see a small image of the “Weyland” logo on Idris Elba’s undershirt in one of the stills. You can check out the stills in our gallery. Read the full post.

On November 21st, 2011 - An IMDB user managed to record an 18 second video of the official Prometheus trailer and leaked it online. He also provided a detailed description of the trailer, mentioning that we see a flashback to Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ with a shot of Ripley and a tagline reading something like “What if the beginning wasn’t really the beginning…”. A lot more was explained, but within hours, Fox had the video and description removed. (You can view screen caps of the cam footage in our gallery however). Read the full post.

Merchandise:

A news article we posted on November 24th, 2011 featured a sneak peak at a Prometheus banner in the latest issue (at the time) of HotToys’ catalog. HotToys manufactures high-end collectibles and action figures for popular movies, games and comic-book heros. They’re known for their incredible Alien and Predator collectibles. So, we can assume they will create a magnificant Prometheus line-up once the film is released!

Prometheus Film Trivia:

• Prometheus’ “code name” used on set was “Paradise”, also the name of the first draft script!
• The planet which will be the main focus throughout the film is named “Zeta Reticuli”. Quoted by Ridley Scott in a recent interview.
• As for Weyland-Yutani, Ridley Scott recently mentioned this:  “Weyland hasn’t joined Yutani yet, so they go and see Weyland. [The film] is about the discussion of terraforming — taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life.”
• Sigourney Weaver will NOT be making an appearance as this prequel is set before her character (Lt. Ripley) was even born, however, the main character will also be a woman (Noomi Rapace).
• The Alien design may change, but Ridley is focussing on the roots of the creature, and expanding more into the concept of what created the Alien and why it was created.
• H.R Giger may have a chance to redesign certain elements of the Alien, to make it more original and seperate it from what it has become with all the more recent films.
• The Space Jockey History is the main focus for this Alien Prequel.
