With the Prometheus trailer released as of December 22nd, and the poster being showcased online since December 14th we have been exposed to more details about the film’s plot. To the average viewer the poster may just look like a cool poster and the trailer, just a well done teaser, but there is a lot more to it after examining both with a closer look.

Now, this is not a “trailer analysis”  article as seen on various other sites; but instead a collection of theories based on evidence which has been released in official Prometheus media. We will analyse various sections of the Prometheus poster and trailer to form interesting and captivating hypothesises. What you are about to read are interpretations made by myself and are strictly theory based, you may differ in opinion, so feel free to share your thoughts in our Prometheus forums!

The Prometheus Poster

The Prometheus film poster is fairly well done in my opinion. It reveals very little – keeping the mystery alive and enticing viewers to ask questions. Similar to that of the Alien film poster, the Prometheus poster follows suit with a similar design and layout. However, after enhancing the image and brightening the picture quality, more is revealed in the background that was initially hidden in the “shadows”.

Now, at first glance this poster reveals a woman (assumed to be Noomi Rapace) investigating a cave possibly, and the “giant head” of our statue friend in our “Ampule Room” – possibly a head of the “Engineer”. Now, with enhanced and brightened colouring, check out the poster below:

This is the same poster, just brightened up a bit. As you can see, more is revealed. First off, the head is more visible with the classic “Giger-esque” lining behind it and secondly we see what looks to be a dead Space Jockey or Bio-Suit for the “Engineers”.

Looks awfully similar to this production still released by Fox earlier this month:

Interesting that we would have that figure in the poster as well!

The Prometheus Trailer

The number of spoilers evident in the trailer are many. We will focus on a few fairly “big” ones and speculate on them. Let’s move on from the image above, of the “dead” creature. Look at what Noomi Rapace and Kate Dickie are inspecting!  It looks to be a head or helmet? Someone even speculated that it resembles that of an Alien egg? Well, after watching the trailer, we can assume that the theory of it being an egg is unlikely. What is more likely is that what they found is the same thing they are examining on the table on board the Prometheus in the scene below:

So, it is clearly evident that the thing in the image on the right above is obviously our Space Jockey head/helmet. We will refer to it as a helmet as the current theory which most people agree on is that the Space Jockey uses a bio mechanical suit for purposes unknown (maybe to harvest Alien eggs?).

On the topic of Alien eggs, a lot may have missed this interesting image:

One of the first production shots to be released for Prometheus, again holding many secrets. It might be just me, but looking at the bottom right corner beside David’s bag, looks to be the top of an Alien egg! In a room full of urn-like canisters, this doesn’t fit. It could be a part of our dead Space Jockey friend from the images above, judging by the relation of everyone to the giant head statue, but looking closely the figure does slightly resemble that of an Alien egg: (Below is an image from Aliens in the egg chamber compared to the image above)

It is very hard to make out, but could be mistaken for an Alien egg.

Onto other matters. This one scene in the trailer depicts someone having a very bad day. Burned by acid maybe? Or infected with whatever is inside the Urns in the Ampule room?

From this image we can’t tell who is the unfortunate character to undergo this process, but from the next scene below we can assume it’s Holloway, played by Logan Marshall-Green.

These two shots are probably from the same scene in the film. It certainly looks like Holloway has suffered some serious burns to his face. But under the helmet? Interesting…

Next up we have a very familiar scene of the crew investigating some Alien taverns! Look familiar?

Reminds me of the opening scene of Alien… very much:

Notice how the curvature of the walls is identical? Even the design of the walls is identical. But the frame above taken from Alien is from inside the crashed Derelict.. the frame above from Prometheus can’t be the Derelict because in the frame below we see the Derelict crashing.

Now, looking at the two images the first one looks like the Derelict is exploding from within.. and crashing. But the image below it doesn’t look like the Derelict took too much damage.. My guess is that it collides with the Prometheus or something of that nature. It’s possible that the picture below of Idris Elba looking quite frightened further suggests my theory might be close to correct.

The red lights flashing in front of him could be a proximity alert, as the Derelict impacts the ship trying to take off. We also see however, Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron running from the crashing Derelict, in an ash-covered landscape with pieces of debris falling near them. Why these two in particular are stranded on the planet is anyone’s guess.

Again, looking at this image, the Derelict does not look like it took much damage on the outside at all. Now, with the Derelict comes the Jockey’s “Chair”. As seen in Alien, we see a very similar scene in the Prometheus trailer:

The chair is seen rising up from the platform. Also, look on the right behind the “S” in “Prometheus”, you see that abnormally tall figure? This humanoid is not human. For starters, he is gigantic. Many have speculated that these are our “Space Jockeys” – humanoid, giant Aliens and the Space Jockey we are used to seeing is simply a bio mechanical suit they wear – but if that is the case, why is this Engineer not wearing his bio-suit? Could he be related to this guy:

Now, we mentioned this guy earlier this month and stated it could be a mutated crew member. He certainly doesn’t move like a human any more, but he’s not large enough to be related to the creature in the Derelict chamber up top. Our guess is that he is Holloway, after he got infected/burned by whatever was in that Ampule room.

This image depicted some interesting secrets, my guess is that the crew are scanning the inside of the caves, while one of the crew finds something and yells to the rest to come check it out. But what I found interesting was the column-like structure near the crew member crouched down (highlighted above), it stands out from the rest of the walls with neat markings all over it – similar to the markings seen on the giant head statue in the Ampule room.

There are so many theories floating about regarding what will happen in Prometheus and the truth of the matter is we won’t know until June 8th, 2012. We can speculate and guess, but no one knows for sure yet.
